Almost two years after the ‘BnN’ debut-EP as a quartet, French artist Js Donny returns solo for their first album. Leaving the delicate fluttering of the butterfly for the infinite swirl of a tornado, the bassist for Marseilles-based band Donna Candy returns with ‘Death Folk’, a minimalist yet profound album, where everything turns black.
The record contains six dark ballads between doom folk, soft metal and alternative rock. Only composed of electroacoustic nylon guitar and muffled bass lines, the songs leave the field clear for Js Donny’s unique voice, skillfully oscillating between soft scream, brooding whispers and liturgical choirs.
Recorded, mixed and mastered by Anotyne Nouel at Sound Love Studio, a limited edition of 300 smoke-clear vinyl ornamented with the deadly drawings of Victoire Mandement.
